Question Morale of Town Employees

Morale of Town Employees was created by ConcernedPerson
Why does it seem that the moral of town employees is down from where it was a year ago. We have had a Fire Chief of 17 years leave due to as was stated in the Monadnock Ledger Transcript he left for “citing “politics” as the reason behind his decision.”

If you read the Monadnock Ledger Transcript, especially after Chief Dick’s article, there seems to be a lot of turmoil between town boards, committees, and departments. I’m noticing that this is since the town voted to have a Town Administrator. Was the town that dysfunctional prior to a Town Administrator, or is he the cause of the dysfunction?

asn’t he hired to keep cost of town government down? His salary is half of the town’s budget increase of 2017. If you went to the 2016 town meeting, it was stated that his salary would be covered by finding grants to cover his costs? I have not heard, or read of any grants that have come into this town.

Lets take a long hard look at what our government is doing here.

Half of the increase is due to adding one position? Where are the grants? How did that pass a vote in town meeting?

I was waiting for someone else to speak up on this, but am not going to wait any longer.

There is something very wrong with town government when a lifetime member of a Fire Department leaves and says it's because he is tired of politics. People like Chief Dick are supposed to retire, not get pushed out of their positions.Politics and personal agendas have no place in public safety departments.

Chief Dick dedicated more than 30 years of his life in service to the town, and it looks like he was chased out in a witch hunt based on that article and what I have been hearing around town. How do you not include the Chief of the fire department in meetings and decisions that directly affect the fire department. That's absurd and seems like government pushing people around to me.

Think about this, the people in town hall are making decisions in areas they know nothing about and then pushing out the people who would be the experts in that area. Pushing out those who have been risking their lives for the people of our community. That's right, our Selectman board and the town administrator doesn't even have experience running a fire hose, never mind an entire department that protects our community. Chief Dick has probably forgotten more about putting out a fire and running his department than these people will ever know.

Not to mention that Chief Dick was not just the Chief, he was also a fire fighter. These are the people who run into burning buildings to save the people of Wilton as well as our neighbors in other towns. If I am not mistaken, these are the things our Fire Department does as volunteers. Just like most places in New Hampshire, they don't get paid 6 figures to do their jobs and risk their lives, these guys volunteer because they care about the community.

But now we have a new town admin and suddenly people start getting pushed out the door. The citizens of Wilton should be disgusted with the way Chief Dick was treated by Town Hall, and if word on the street is true this is happening to other department heads as well.

I can't believe they get away with this stuff, how can we believe anything they say when they bring something to town meeting and then switch it later.

Since this town administrator is such a dick and not doing his job, why don't we start a petition warrant article to remove the position. We could have saved $150,000 or 3% of the town budget if we got rid of his position, and the computer line that he proposed. Maybe we need to start a petition for next town meeting.
